Simple and detailed view

Setup has two views of the same workspace. The simple view puts the assistant first; the detailed view shows recipes, logs and runners.

  2. What the simple view shows
  3. What the detailed view shows
  4. Switching views
  5. The assistant in each view
  6. For developers

Setup can show your workspace in two ways. The simple view is for people who just want an app to work: you talk to the assistant, and your apps appear as cards with a status in plain words. The detailed view is for developers and admins: recipes, logs, runners and every setting, with the assistant in a side panel.

Both views show the same apps and do the same things. You can switch at any time, and every simple screen has a Show details link to the detailed version of the same page.

The onboarding questions

After your first sign-in, Setup asks a few questions at /dashboard/welcome, one per step:

  1. How familiar are you with technology? "Not at all" or "A bit" picks the simple view. "A lot" picks the detailed view.
  2. What do you want to use Setup for? "For me or my family", "For my company or team" or "For development". This decides which apps Setup suggests first and how the assistant talks to you.
  3. Start with one of these. A few catalog apps that fit your answers. Try it starts one as a one-hour trial right there, or Go to my dashboard skips this step.

You can skip the questions with Skip for now. Setup asks again after three days. Until you answer, you see the detailed view.

What the simple view shows

  • Home asks "What do you need?" and has the assistant's chat right on the page, with suggestions to get you started. Below it, Your apps shows what you've started.
  • Add an app groups the catalog by need: photos, files, passwords, a team wiki, website visitors and more. Picking an app asks only for the settings it can't fill in itself, then Try it (a free hour) or Keep it.
  • Your apps shows each app as a card: "Running", "Starting", "Paused", "Not responding", "Something went wrong" or "Trial ended", plus the trial time left.
  • An app's page has Open the app and a Manage section to keep, start, restart, pause, back up, update or remove it. When something is wrong, Ask what happened lets the assistant explain.

The sidebar leaves out Runners and Developers in the simple view. The pages still work; switch to the detailed view to see them in the sidebar again.

What the detailed view shows

  • Home with a paste box for links, recipes and descriptions.
  • Run something: the analysis, the recipe (as a summary and as JSON you can edit) and the deploy form with settings, trial or kept, and the runner.
  • Apps: a table with status, health, type, runner and address, and tabs for Active, Trials, Failed and Ended.
  • An app's page with tabs for Overview, Logs, Health, Backups, Recipe and Settings.
  • Runners, Connections and Developers (API keys and the MCP server).

Switching views

You can change the view in two places:

  • My account. Open the menu at the top of the sidebar and choose My account (/dashboard/account). The Dashboard and assistant section has the choice between Simple and Detailed, and lets you change your answers to the onboarding questions.
  • Show details. On a simple screen, this link opens the detailed version of the same page once. Your default view doesn't change.

The view is a personal setting. It follows you into every workspace you belong to, and other members of a team keep their own. Once you pick a view yourself, it wins over the one Setup derived from your answer about technology.

The assistant in each view

The assistant works in both views and can do the same things in both.

In the simple view, the home page shows the chat inline. On every other page, Ask Setup in the corner opens it, and Ask about this on an app's card or page opens it with that app in mind, so "is it running?" means that app.

In the detailed view, Ask Setup in the corner opens the assistant as a panel next to the page, so you can keep working while it answers. When you ask why an app failed, the detailed view also offers the log lines the assistant read, behind a button like Show 60 lines of activity (up to the last 60 lines). The simple view leaves them out and keeps the plain explanation.

How the assistant talks depends on your answer to the technology question, not on the view. If you said "Not at all", it avoids words like container, runner or logs. If you said "A lot", it is short and technical. The assistant has more.

For developers

Four screens have a simple version: Home, Add an app (/dashboard/new), Apps (/dashboard/apps) and an app's page. Runners, Connections, Developers, Settings and My account exist only in the detailed form.

Add ?view=details to any of those four addresses to open the detailed screen once, whatever your default:

/dashboard/apps?view=details

The analysis of a pasted link (/dashboard/new?input=...) always opens in its detailed form, also in the simple view.

Your answers and your view are stored per person, not per workspace. They are available through the API with a signed-in session:
