What does Setup cost?

Setup does not charge for analyzing a project, writing a recipe or running apps on your own computer or server. You pay for the hardware and any outside services you connect. A model API can also charge for use.

Team and Business add workspace controls, including policies and a private catalog. Paid plans are not on sale yet; contact us about enabling these controls. Setup Cloud is coming. Its prices have not been announced.

Does anything run on my computer?

Pasting starts analysis, not project code. After you review the recipe and confirm, the app starts on a computer or server connected to your workspace. If you connected your own computer, it runs there. Your browser opens the app's link.

Someone needs to connect that machine first. After that, you can ask the assistant for a team calendar without using a terminal. Start here.

Where do my apps and their data live?

The app's data and backups stay on the server running it. Those backups are on the same machine, so they are not a separate copy at another location.

Setup's server stores your account, workspaces and recipes. It also stores settings, recent app logs and assistant conversations. Secret settings are encrypted. How runners work.

Can I use my own domain with HTTPS?

Yes. Start your runner with a domain and configure DNS. It gives each app an HTTPS address, and you can add names such as wiki.example.com. Public access needs reachable ports. A private certificate authority is also available if you trust its certificate on your devices. Domain setup.

Can I bring over a whole server?

Yes. Connect the server with imports enabled, select its existing apps and review the changes. Setup stops the old apps, copies their data and starts the new copies. If a copy fails its checks, Setup starts the old app again.

The old copies remain stopped until you remove them. Folders you choose to keep in place are not backed up yet. Moved apps get new addresses, so old links may stop working. Connect your server.

What is a stack?

A stack groups apps for a shared purpose. The small office stack includes a wiki and a password manager, for example. Review the apps and confirm once to start them in order.

You can back up the whole stack with one action. Each app still has its own backup schedule. Browse stacks.

Does Setup host language models?

No. Apps that need a language model use your model API. With OpenRouter, Setup creates a separate key for each app, with a monthly spending limit. It deletes that key when you remove the app or the trial ends, and reports failed cleanup.

If you use another API compatible with OpenAI, Setup fills in its address and you supply a key created for that app. The assistant also uses a hosted model through OpenRouter. Connected accounts.

What happens to connected services when I remove an app?

Setup records the keys, databases and other resources it creates for each app. Removal deletes those resources, retries failures and lists anything still left with instructions. Check the removal report. Accounts and resources you supplied yourself are not deleted.

Most provider modules have not been tested with real accounts yet. Integration details.

Is it safe to run software someone else wrote?

Setup reads project files without executing them. Apps then run in isolated sandboxes with resource limits. By default, they cannot reach your local network. Declared internet access goes through a filtered proxy.

This has limits. Containers share the host kernel unless the runner uses gVisor or Kata. Build steps can reach the host network, so use firewall rules or a separate virtual machine for builds. Security model.

Can I run all of Setup on my own server?

You can run setup-runner, the part that starts apps on your hardware. The web app and its control server are not available to run yourself. Public downloads of the runner are not published yet. Contact us about access.

The runner requests work through outbound connections to Setup. Access to the apps it runs is separate and may require open ports. Runner guide.

Is Setup open source?

Not yet. We intend to publish the recipe format, analyzer, catalog and runner as open source. Nothing has been published and there is no public repository. The web app and Setup Cloud stay private.

How long does a trial last?

An hour by default. When it ends, Setup removes the app and its data. Keep it before then if you want it to stay. Kept apps get daily backups and health checks. Keep an app running.

What if Setup cannot work out how to run something?

It explains what it found and may suggest a catalog app instead. A draft recipe can need changes before it will work. Read it before starting the app.

For your own project, put setup.json in the repository. Setup uses that recipe instead of guessing. Recipe format.

What does a verification badge mean?

Green requires a successful run on Setup's own runners. Blue means the project's CI reported a pass using a maintainer token. Runs on anyone's own runner never change the badge. Badge details.

Is there a phone app?

The companion app is built, but it is not in the App Store or Google Play. Use Setup in your phone's browser for now.

Which languages are available?

The interface is available in English, German and Spanish. The assistant answers in the language you use. Most guides are in English and German; a notice appears when a translation is missing.

Can my own AI agent use Setup?

Yes. Create a scoped API key for the MCP server. Agents use the same permissions and policies as the dashboard. Destructive actions need explicit confirmation. MCP and API keys.

What happens to assistant conversations?

Setup stores your conversations. Other workspace members cannot open them. To answer, it sends the recent part of the conversation to a model through OpenRouter. Deleting your account deletes the conversations. The assistant.
