Terms and Conditions (draft)
The rules for using Setup, what you are responsible for when you run someone else's software, and what we can and cannot promise.
Draft. Not legal advice. These terms describe how Setup works today. They have not been reviewed by a lawyer and must be reviewed before launch. Text in [square brackets] is a placeholder.
These terms are an agreement between you and [Company legal name], [Registered address] ("we"), for the use of Setup. By creating an account or running software with Setup, you accept them. If you use Setup for an organization, you accept them on its behalf and confirm that you are allowed to.
What Setup does
You give Setup a link or a description. Setup reads the source as data, writes a recipe that describes how to run it, runs that recipe in a sandbox on a runner, and keeps it running if you choose to. Runners are either hosted by us or installed by you on your own hardware.
Setup is under active development. Features change, and some described on the website are not finished yet.
Your account
- Give us a real email address and keep your sign-in methods safe. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Everything you create in a workspace (projects, deployments, logs, runners) is visible to every member of that workspace. Owners and admins decide who is a member.
- Tell us at [Contact email] if you think someone else has access to your account.
The software you run is not ours
Almost everything you run with Setup is written by third parties. It comes with its own license, and you are responsible for following it. We do not review, endorse or support that software.
Recipes are often drafted automatically, by detectors or by an AI model. A recipe can be wrong: it can pick the wrong version, miss a setting, or start something that does not work. Read the recipe before you run it, especially before you enter real data or passwords.
Acceptable use
Do not use Setup to:
- attack, scan or overload other systems, or send spam
- host malware, phishing pages or content that is illegal where you or we operate
- mine cryptocurrency on runners we host
- break out of the sandbox, access other users' deployments, or get around resource limits
- resell access to runners we host without our written permission
If you find a security problem, report it to security@setup.run instead of exploiting it.
[Review this list before launch and align it with the hosting provider's acceptable use policy.]
Runners you host
You can install the Setup runner on your own machine. You are responsible for that machine, its network and the data on it. The runner applies its own sandbox settings, but containers share the host's kernel unless you install gVisor, and build steps can reach your local network unless you block it. The security page explains both. Keep runner tokens secret and revoke a token if it leaks.
Trials, deployments and backups
- Trials stop on their own, after 60 minutes by default. The runner then deletes their containers and data. Do not keep anything important in a trial.
- Persistent deployments keep running until you stop or delete them. We do not guarantee that they stay up.
- Backups are a convenience. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Your content
You keep the rights to what you submit: inputs, recipes and the data inside the software you run. You give us the permission we need to store and process it in order to run Setup for you.
When you make a project public, you also allow us to show its recipes and verification results in the public catalog and to let other users run them. [Decide the license under which public recipes are shared.]
Paid plans
Paid plans, when they are offered, are billed through Stripe at the prices shown on the pricing page. [Billing period, renewals, cancellations, refunds and taxes need to be defined.]
Ending the agreement
You can delete your account at any time in your account settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other users at risk, or is required to be closed by law. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you time to export your data.
Warranty and liability
[Warranty disclaimer and limitation of liability, drafted for the applicable jurisdiction.]
Changes to these terms
We will post changes on this page and update the date below. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you before it takes effect.
