Cookie Policy (draft)
The cookies and browser storage Setup uses, why each one exists, and how to turn off the optional ones.
Draft. Not legal advice. This policy lists what the Setup software stores in your browser today. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and must be reviewed before launch. Text in [square brackets] is a placeholder.
Setup is operated by [Company legal name]. Like most web apps, it stores small pieces of data in your browser. By default, Setup uses only what it needs to work. Nothing on this list tracks you across other websites.
Needed for the site to work
These are always on. Without them you cannot sign in or keep your settings.
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Keeps you signed in | Until you sign out or the session expires ([Session lifetime]) |
| Session cache cookie | Lets the app check your session without a database lookup on every request | 5 minutes |
| Last sign-in method | Shows which method you used last on the sign-in page | [Duration] |
| Sign-in flow cookies | Protect sign-in with Google, GitHub or Apple, and two-factor checks, against forged requests | Only during sign-in |
Language (locale) | Remembers the language you picked | [Duration] |
| Cookie consent | Remembers what you allowed in the cookie preferences | [Duration] |
Sidebar (sidebar_state) | Remembers whether the dashboard sidebar is open | 7 days |
Setup also uses your browser's local storage to remember whether you chose the light or dark theme. That value never leaves your browser.
Optional: analytics
Setup can use PostHog for product analytics and error tracking. It is off unless the operator of this instance configures an analytics key, and even then it only runs after you allow "Analytics" in the cookie preferences. When it runs, PostHog stores an identifier in your browser so it can tell visits apart, and links events to your account if you are signed in. The Privacy Policy explains what it receives.
[If analytics is enabled before launch, list the exact PostHog cookie names and durations here.]
Changing your choice
Use the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page to change what you allow. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the cookies in the first table, you will not be able to sign in.
